MARKUS COMMITS $450,000 FOR CCTVs TO CUT CRIME IN WINMALEE, GLENBROOK AND HAZELBROOK

13-August-2010

Louise Markus MP, Liberal Candidate for Macquarie, announced this week that the Liberals would take real action to make our community safer.

Making the announcement at the Hazelbrook Association meeting last week, Mrs Markus said CCTV cameras are part of the Liberals plan to fight crime and combat vandalism and graffiti in key areas.

“The Hazelbrook Association contacted me with their concerns about local crime and identified CCTV cameras as vital to help them fight crime in their community,” Mrs Markus said.

“I have fought to secure this funding, so that if elected, $450,000 will be delivered by the Liberals for CCTVs in the Blue Mountains to fight crime and make the community safer,” Mrs Markus announced.

“Key safety concerns have been raised with me by locals regarding areas in Winmalee, Glenbrook and Hazelbrook – and so I fought to secure funding for these areas to be delivered if elected as a Coalition Government.

“The Liberals understand the damage that community crime can do to local neighbourhoods. We believe that tackling local crime should be a national priority.

“We will commit $50 million towards a sustained national approach to community crime prevention. Central to this national approach will be the re-establishment of a National Community Crime Prevention Programme.

“The National Community Crime Prevention Programme will also fund security initiatives for local councils in order to combat low-level crime such as graffiti and vandalism. Measures to be supported will include increased security patrols and graffiti cleaning squads that are delivered by local councils,” Mrs Markus announced.

Applications for funding will require the involvement of local Police to ensure.
