CAITLIN FLYS THE AUSTRALIAN FLAG IN SWEDEN
16-December-2010
Louise Markus MP, Federal Member for Macquarie, today presented Winmalee High School student Caitlin Dwyer, with an Australian flag to accompany her on her journey to Sweden in January.
“Caitlin is heading overseas to Sweden for the next ten months as part of the Southern Cross Cultural Exchange program and it is a wonderful opportunity to discover a foreign culture while living as a local,” Louise Markus said.
The program seeks to engage the student’s sense of adventure and determination to succeed while experiencing another culture, learning another language, adapting to foreign customs, and most of all understanding its people.
It is a rare chance to gain a second family and make lifelong friendships in another part of the world.
“As part of the experience I will be attending a local Swedish High School, and I also hope to catch up with relatives that live in the region,” said Caitlin.
“I wish Caitlin a safe and successful journey and hope she thoroughly enjoys the experience and in the process spreads a little Australian culture wherever she travels in Sweden,” said Louise Markus.
