MARKUS CONGRATULATES RICHMOND RSL SUB-BRANCH
21-February-2011
Louise Markus MP, Federal Member for Macquarie, today congratulated the members of the Richmond RSL Sub-branch for obtaining funding under the Veteran and Community program.
“I congratulate the Sub-branch for obtaining a grant of $16,310 to help purchase much needed equipment to support the activities of the Day Club,” Louise Markus said.
The Veteran and Community grants program aims to support a range of community initiatives to promote healthy lifestyles for veterans, help veterans live independently at home, and provide support for carers.
“Providing suitable facilities at local clubs is a key measure in making sure the whole community can benefit and be involved,” Louise Markus said.
John Paddy, President of the Richmond RSL Sub-branch said he was very appreciative of the grant.
“The monies will be used to purchase new furniture and equipment for the Day Club. The Day Club is a new initiative for the Sub-branch in which we pick up members by bus once a week, bring them to the Club and make sure they have a good day out,” John Paddy said.
“The grant to Richmond RSL Sub-branch is an example of how this program can help promote a healthy and active lifestyle and also help reduce social isolation,” Louise Markus said.
“I would encourage other local community organisations interested in applying for funding to visit www.dva.gov.au/grants or contact their nearest Department of Veteran Affairs office on 1800 555 254,” Louise Markus said.
