MARKUS ASKS LOCAL RESIDENTS TO HELP THOSE AFFECTED BY WILD WEATHER
08-July-2011
Louise Markus MP, Federal Member for Macquarie has asked residents in the Blue Mountains and the Hawkesbury to assist those who have been affected by the wild weather in the Blue Mountains over the past few days.
“It is freezing in the Blue Mountains and some people have been without power for days,” Mrs Markus said. “Any thing that you can spare could really help to make life a lot easier for those in need.”
Kerry Owen, the manager of the Salvation Army Family Store in Katoomba reiterated this point.
“All people are really cold and really hungry,” Kerry Owen said. “Things like blankets, torches and board games for the kids would be a great help. A shower and a hot meal would be a great help, especially around the Blackheath area.”
The Salvation Army Family Store in Katoomba is seeking donations from anyone that can help as is the local St Vincent de Paul branch.
“More blankets and bedding are vital at the moment,” Bonny Hunter, the manager of St Vincent de Paul Katoomba said. “Any warm clothing people can spare would be appreciated. Things like scarves, gloves and hats. Men’s shoes and jackets in particular.”
If you can assist in anyway please contact The Salvation Army Family Store on (02) 4782 6683 or St Vincent de Paul-Katoomba (02) 4782 1068
