BER DICHOTOMY FOR HAWKESBURY
18-November-2011
Federal Member for Macquarie, Louise Markus MP, expressed concern today over Labor’s mismanagement of funds following the opening of two Building the Education Revolution program facilities at Cattai Public School and Maraylya Public School.
“Cattai Public School and Maraylya Public School are deserving recipients of Federal Government funding,” said Louise Markus.
“I can’t help but think how much further $1 million could have gone for both schools – it would certainly have provided them with the means to build more facilities, while at the same time employ local business and trades.
“Billions of taxpayers dollars have been poured into this program around Australia and schools have been forced to take mass-produced and over-priced template designs or miss out.
“I fully support investment in schools, however Cattai Public School and Maraylya Public School would have greatly benefited from self-managing these projects to simultaneously stimulate the Hawkesbury’s economy,” said Mrs Markus.
It is estimated approximately $8 billion has been spent on the BER program by Labor.
