09-December-2011
Member for Macquarie, Louise Markus MP commemorated Private Luke Worsley’s life and service to this country at the official opening and dedication of the Luke Worsley Bridge in Windsor today.
Mrs Markus joined with Private Worsley’s family, representatives from the Army, Hawkesbury councillors and Parliamentary colleagues at the ceremony at Howe Park.
“Naming the new bridge at Howe Park is a wonderful way to honour the life and memory of Private Luke Worsley and to remind us all of the immeasurable sacrifice Private Worsley made for this community and this nation,” said Mrs Markus.
“He was a man of courage and compassion, love and light-heartedness.
“The decision by the Hawkesbury City Council to name the bridge in memory of Private Worsley is a great honour for his family.
“The commitment of our troops in our Defence Force to completing our mission is remarkable and I encourage all in our community to mirror this commitment by supporting those still serving for our great nation in conflict abroad.
“We will be eternally grateful for the immense sacrifice Private Worsley gave for our nation and the Luke Worsley Bridge at Howe Park will act as a timeless reminder of this.”
Private Luke Worsley served in the Bravo Commando Company Group and was deployed to Afghanistan in September 2007, his second rotation in the region. Private Worsley was killed in action by a deliberate attack on our forces by Taliban Leaders in the Uruzgan Province on 23 November 2007.
