WASTEFUL, NOT WASTED

14-December-2011

Letter to Editor - Hawkesbury Gazette

I fully support investment in schools, however, given taxpayers are sustaining a $1.7 billion budget blow-out, I do not agree that this program was managed in the best possible way.

However, while the premise of the Building the Education Revolution program delivers more resources and facilities to our schools, the reality is that this program has wasted billions of tax-payers dollars that could have been better managed if the allocated funds were given to schools to self-administrate.

Local economies would have been stimulated, schools could have built the facilities they needed and not the facilities they were forced to build and the $9 billion estimated to have been poured into the program would have meant many schools, particularly the smaller public schools in our electorate, could have managed themselves for many years to come.

In the past few weeks I have enjoyed many school presentations all over this great electorate and commend all students, parents and teachers on a fantastic 2011.
